Light and efficient
Ummy is a YouTube downloader that focuses on the most popular media site as well as a handful of other websites such as Dailymotion. The interface is easy to use, and you’ll find any video, and it’s download progress through the original thumbnail of the file.
Earlier versions of this application were unable to download videos from any site except for YouTube. In the current update, it’s possible to download media from multiple websites including Dailymotion and RuTube.
The application is lightweight and uses minimal system resources while running. Thanks to this and it’s simplistic design, downloading videos is possible on almost any computer.
The interface that Ummy uses is extremely easy to navigate, and you’ll quickly find any function you need. Once you start the process to download videos on Windows, you’ll see their progress pop up below the main screen of the application.
Options for the video downloader resolution can be found in a dropdown menu found below the section for pasting a video’s URL link.
Ummy can Download videos in HD when you select the MP4 1080 FullHD setting. While you’re choosing the resolution for your video, you’ll also see how large the file is, a needed feature that you don’t see when you use YouTube Premium on your mobile device.
Along with resolution and size, you can also select which filetype you want to save your media as for future access. This is great if you’re exporting videos to another device. Among the variety of file types you can choose MP4, MP3, MOV, FLV, AVI, and MKV.
Running the app
As your free video downloader is light on system resources, any strenuous demands won’t burden your computer that applications like Videoder places on it. Unlike that alternative, there is no multithreading that uses more resources.
However, as there is no download acceleration, Ummy will save videos at the regular speed that comes from your internet provider.
Ummy can download multiple videos if they are queued. This lessens the speed at which your video downloads are completed since the videos are saved sequentially. Due to this, you may end up with a lengthy list of videos that forces you to wait until everything downloads.
The application cannot download a playlist that’s filled with the media you want saved. The only URL that Ummy recognizes is the once belonging to the currently playing video. This is one downside that makes an alternative preferable.
As this application is updated, it becomes bundled with a variety of other third-party software that you likely don’t want to install. Fortunately, if you go through the process to install Ummy carefully, you can avoid these software options by unchecking their boxes.
Unlike alternative applications, Ummy sets the video thumbnail as the display for currently downloading videos and saved videos. This makes file management a breeze compared to the chaos that happens when you download videos from your browser.
If you prefer an application that’s more comprehensive than Ummy, there is a large selection of alternatives available.
